ISPRA - Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale

Generalities

The Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) carries out scientific and technical activities in the national interest to protect the environment, sea and inland water resources, the soil and the wildlife; it was created in 2008 by merging the Italian Environment Protection and Technical Services Agency, the Central Institute for Scientific and Technogical Research applied to the Sea and the National Institute for Wildlife. ISPRA Coastal Engineering Group ensures scientific support to Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea and local administrations in the field of marine structure environmental effects. The activities carried out by the group include: development of numerical models, wave climate analysis, wave-structure interaction analysis, sediment and pollutant transport modelling, laboratory and in situ measurements based on PIV/PTV techniques.

Main Role in ADRICOSM-STAR

ISPRA is responsible for Task 4.2: “Wave modelling” and is involved in Task 5.2 "Coupling between WAve, CUrrent and SEdiment models (WACUSE model)".
ISPRA contributions to the project will focus on:

  • Implementation of nested SWAN wave model in the northern Bojana coastal strip. The results of the model will be used to model sediment resuspension.
  • Development of high resolution wave models to study wave/coast/structure interactions. Models based on both "long waves" hypothesis and more general "short waves" hypotesis will be applied to small scale specific studies in the project area. The models will be available to the project partners.
  • Development, implementation and calibration of coupling between wave, circulation and sediment modelling.

The ISPRA participants are:
FRANCESCO LALLI
ANTONELLO BRUSCHI
LUCA LIBERTI
STEFANIA MANDRONE
VALERIA PESARINO
