Workshop "The hybridization between wild and domestic animals: a threat to biodiversity"

Biodiversity yards

Siena, Santa Maria della Scala December 10-11 Opening session at 10.00 on Thursday, 10 December, closing at 16.30 on Friday, December 11th
Hybridization between wild and domestic species is growing rapidly, posing a serious threat to biodiversity. The hybridization with the domestic dog is one of the worst threat to the wolf, and it is estimated that at least 10% of wild cats in Italy are hybrids with domestic ones. Moreover, even in the case of common species such as the wild boar or the pigeon (Columba livia domestica), the intersection with the domestic forms is a serious problem, associated with the presence of these opportunistic species.
ISPRA, Federparchi and the Province of Siena have decided to spend the Fourth Workshop of the yards of Biodiversity (Siena December10-11) on the issue. The meeting - attended by leading national experts on the subject - will take stock of the technical aspects of this matter, the limitations of existing regulatory instruments, the intervention strategies.
Participation in the conference is open to all interested and is free. To confirm your participation and for information contact the province of Siena at email: cantieribiodiversita@provincia.siena.it.
