Signed Memorandum of Cooperation ISPRA-Biodiversity Convention Secretariat

Last night during the meeting of Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice in Montreal in front of the delegates of the signatory countries of Biodiversity Convention, the President of ISPRA De Bernardinis, and the Executive Secretary of the Biodiversity Convention', Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias, signed the Memorandum of Cooperation between the two respective bodies.

The Memorandum recognizes the valuable technical and scientific contribution of ISPRA concerning the improvement in the prevention and mitigation of impacts of invasive species, especially through the implementation of global databases on the iusse- in particular the Global Register of Introduced and Invasive Species and Global Invasive Species Database

ISPRA has confirmed the commitment to strengthen its technical and scientific work on the topic, including the maintenance and updating of databases

It’s also important to underlines that last April 22 the prestigious magazine Science published a study, which an ISPRA researcher is a co-author, which highlighted the need  to improve the mapping systems of the threats to biodiversity, and focused the value of the Global Invasive Species Database (http://science.sciencemag.org/content/352/6284/416.full-text.pdf)
