“Forgotten fruits of Italian Region” the ISPRA contribution for EXPO 2015

The ISPRA project "Forgotten Fruits and Biodiversity recovered" notebooks were launched in 2010, when the United Nations declared the International Year of Biodiversity. The success of the first notebooks has allowed to develop  an organic and coherent collection on Forgotten fruits and to define the general frame of the Italian regions.

This initiative aims to be an important contribution to the preservation and knowledge of agrobioversity, the process that has generated the largest multiplicity in Europe of animal and plant linked to the territory. through the selection by the local farmers,

At strategic and normative level, the National Plan on biodiversity of agricultural interest, the European Directives and Regulations, provide explicit guidelines for the development of genetic resources in agriculture.

Within this framework ISPRA participates to the promotion of initiatives to support sustainable agriculture in the context of applied research, monitoring, environmental information and nature conservation.

The great event of Expo 2015 "Feeding the planet, energy for life",  that  takes place in Milan, it is certainly in line with these objectives, because the ancient fruits are quality foods that respect  health, environment and promote energy saving.

Therefore it was decided to deveolp and present for this event, a collection (printed on CD) of the notebooks as a explicit contribution of  ISPRA to this important initiative.

The CD, included in a box together with a brochure, will be presented at EXPO 2015 during the events of World Food Day organized by the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, next 14 October.
