The Upside Down City - From Analysis to Enhancement of Hypogea

  • When May 25, 2018 from 09:00 AM to 07:00 PM (GMT+0 / UTC0)
  • Add event to calendar iCal

Many historical centers in Italy are characterized by the widespread presence of hypogea, often of considerable historical and archaeological value, but, just as frequently, little or not known at all. The lack of knowledge represents an element of considerable risk for the stability of those historical centers; on the contrary, the enhancement  and the conscious and sustainable re-use of hypogea, in addition to mitigating risk conditions, can contribute to improving the cultural and tourist promotion of a territory, and be an useful starting point and source of knowledge for scholars and stakeholders.

The conference, which will take place in the Aula Magna of the Engineering Department at the Real Casa dell'Annunziata in Aversa, aims to provide an overview of the most recent studies conducted in the field of analysis, cataloging, monitoring and enhancement of hypogea, and contributing to the sensitization of scholars, professionals and local administrators. The conference is organized by the Department of Engineering of the University of Campania "L. Vanvitelli ", under the patronage of ISPRA and in collaboration with the Order of Geologists of the Campania Region and the Speleological Federation of Campania.
