Agriculture is one of the sectors most involved to achieve the goal of "Contrast the biodiversity decline" defined at European Council of  Göteborg and reiterated as an ambitious 2020 target by the Council of the European Union, and by the implementation plan of the Convention International on Biological Diversity.

The "ancient" fruits, selected for centuries by local Italian populations, represent an important reference point for the protection of agrobiodiversity and the development of sustainable supply chains. The spread of varieties suitable for integrated and biological management support the sustainability of agricultural activities and the elimination of substances that are harmful to the environment.

Unfortunately, their rarefaction continues in favor of patented varieties or commercial interest unsuitable for local contexts and which require strong external inputs with impacts on environmental quality.

These important topics will be discussed by experts from research institutions dealing with the protection of Italian native germplasm.

At the meeting an Ispra will expert.
