From fishing to farming of Manila clam in Venice lagoon: spat culture nursery techniques

Clam culture represents an important productive activity in the Northern Adriatic lagoons, with particular reference to the Venice lagoon although different issues, concerning the ecological sustainability of such resource and the effect of clam harvesting systems on the ecosystem, still represent critical challenges to be deepened.
This volume contains the overall results obtained during a Research Project aimed to the identification of sustainable practices of clam-culture techniques to use in Venice lagoon. First, a state-of-art of the available clam spat culture techniques was arranged; then experimental trials were used to assess the effectiveness of the proposed systems to grow Manila clam spat in Venice lagoon and protocols were established  to efficiently manage spat farming.
