Stintino Peninsula (NW Sardinia) has a great touristic and ecological value. White beaches, cliffs, promontories, rias, islands, dunes, coastal lakes, the sea bottom with Posidonia oceanica, the wildlife with abundant fish and cetaceans are the elements which characterize the landscape of this territory.
In this scientific report we report main results obtained during three years (2006/08) of both field and laboratory activities on the Pelosa beach, in the north of Stintino Peninsula.
Such studies were produced with the aim to favour the system’s recovery, a correct management of the beach, together with an information campaign to sensitize tourists and operators.
The final objective of the recovery is to develop the concept of “ecological beach”, i.e. to favour the development of tourist-recreational fruition of the beach and of the productive activities associated to it while safeguarding the area’s naturalistic value.
Data on the beach dynamics (including: shoreline evolution, sedimentary balance, petrographic characterization of sands), the monitoring of the dune system, the evaluation of currying capacity and the outlooks for the preservation of the Pelosa beach are presented.
