Italian Action Plan for the Lesser Kestrel Falco naumanni

The Italian Action Plan for the Lesser Kestrel enriches the set of action plans drawn up to identify the threats and limiting factors in Italy for a species that, although currently recovering thanks to multiple conservation actions, a few decades ago suffered strong collapse of its population, both nationally and globally. The Action Plan, shows an updated bibliographic summary about the biology of the species, updates the knowledge on its consistency and range in Italy and suggests multiple actions necessary to ensure the necessary levels of quality and environmental protection in reproductive and trophic habitats constantly at risk. The main aims of the plan are, in fact, to keep the populations at an almost stable level and to favor their expansion through the adoption of cultivation techniques that favor the elimination of pesticides and the maintenance of trophic habitat suitable for the species as well as the protection of buildings that present suitable reproductive sites and roost trees widely used by the species.
