NATIONAL ACTION PLAN FOR GREY PARTRIDGE (Perdix perdix)

Since the middle of the last Century, the Grey Partridge Perdix perdix populations have suffered a marked decline in Italy owing to habitat loss and human direct persecution. Degradation of the natural rural environment and hunting pressure have decimated Italian species populations. Furthermore, the Italian subspecies Perdix perdix italica -listed in Annex I of the “Birds” Directive 2009/147/EC- is virtually extinct in nature. The aim of the Grey Partridge National Action Plan is to provide the competent authorities and stakeholders with the needed tools to ensure the survival of the species in suitable area, and to improve the habitat conservation. The guidelines for the species reintroduction and monitoring are included.
