Guidelines for the report on air quality: target definition, tools and core set indicators for the production of report on air quality

This guideline is the product of  the WG 30 of the area 5 "Reporting" developed in the framework of the “Three-year plan 2014-2016” of the Environmental Protection National System (SNPA). Starting from the need of the Agency System of having a National Report on Air Quality and according to the relevant regulations, the WG has identified the most appropriate choices to photograph the state of air quality at the national level, both in relation in reporting tools already in use, we are considering new, defining targets, tools and core set of indicators.

Based on the monitoring data from regional networks, representing the heart of information, the WG has identified three specific products, which can satisfy the need for timely information and the complete and thorough while:

  • a summary document, based on preliminary data of the current year, to provide a ready and updated information on the most critical situations in our country;
  • a summary document, based on validated data of the previous year, focused on the most critical pollutants;
  • a document, based on validated data of the previous year, characterized by in-depth content, complete and updated regarding the drivers, the causes and the state of air quality, as well as the effects and improvement measures.

While the content and methods of implementation of the last two products are completely defined, those are not the first product, since this product is sent back to when it will be operational a national system of up-to-date data (data "near real time").
The realization of a Report on Air Quality in Italy, in line with what is defined in the guideline, is the goal of the WG n. 36 area 6 of the “Three-year plan 2014-2016” of the Environmental Protection National System (SNPA)
