Genetically Modified Plants and the Environment

Starting from a summary of scientific discoveries, which are the building blocks of biotechnology, this volume describes bio-molecular techniques and in vitro cultures, used for transgenic plant cultures, or, in other words, for genetically modified plants (GMPs). Obviously, a chapter is dedicated to current EU and Italian legislation on the matter, as well as a review of experiments currently carried out and of the commercialisation of GM plants. The principal characteristics of genetically modified cultures are also described, and an overview is also given of the possible dangers of introducing such cultures in the environment.
