Italian National Report for Birds Directive: bird populations, distributions and trends (2008-2012).

This Report is the first assessment of the conservation status of Italian bird populations after the introduction of the EU Birds Directive and it is part of a European reporting activity that will be repeated every 6 years, according to the article 12 of the Directive. The Report summarises the best available information on the demography (population size, short- and long-term trends) and geographical distribution of 306 bird populations. The main conservation threats and gap in knowledge have also been identified and ranked. Special attention is given to the evaluation of the relevance and role of Special Protected Areas of the Nature 2000 Network for bird conservation.
