The Carta della Natura system as source of data and information for planning activities

The Carta della Natura system is one of the ISPRA activity which has seen a progressive improvement over the years both in terms of deepening of the methodological aspects and of diversification of its possible applications.

The knowledge system of Carta della Natura was used in a always wider operational and territorial contexts, not as a simple territorial mapping system, according to a multi-scale approach, but as a methodology to define, to collect (in a synergic way), to coordinate, to (periodically) enhance and update the naturalistic knowledge too often dispersed and fragmented.

Therefore this system is a valid starting point for activities for the conservation and the sustainable use of natural capital, taking into account the state of the ecosystems and their modifications as well as the sectorial and inter-sectorial policies, plans and programs to manage of the territory. In this perspective, the RETICULA monograph outlines a non-exhaustive, but representative picture of national experiences that, over the last few years, have used this important tool at different territorial level.
