Update: 04/04/2012
INQUA (International Union for Quaternary Research) since 80
years is an international organization for all scientists dealing
with Quaternary and Environmental Geology. The structure of INQUA
comprehends 5 Commissions, including the Commission on Terrestrial
Processes, Deposits and History (TERPRO).
The Focus Group on Paleoseismology and Active Tectonics operates in
the frame of INQUA TERPRO (Terrestrial
Processes). It aims at promoting studies focused on the effects
induced by strong earthquakes on natural environment. It is
represented by a network of experts that promotes scientific
exchanges in this research area.
The structure
is composed by a President and two Vice Presidents. The Scientific
Secretary is based at the Spanish Geological Survey.

of the Focus Group.

What's new?
The project INQUA #0811 “A global catalogue and mapping of earthquake environmental effects" (2008 – 2011) has finished at the XVIII INQUA Congresss (Bern, 20-27 July 2011), with the first official release of the EEE Catalogue, a global catalogue of effects induced by earthquakes on natural environment realized by the Focus Group coordinated by ISPRA.
For the period 2011-2015 a new project has been approved, named
“Parametrization
of earthquake environmental effects”. It aims at
building empirical relationships between source parameters and
intensity of environmental effects based on available information
from modern, historical, ancient and paleo earthquakes, with the
aim to review also the ESI 2007 scale, the intensity scale based
only on environmental effects.
The following five tasks are scheduled:
- EEE Catalogue (ESI-2007)
- EEE Empirical Relationships with Earthquake parametres
- On-Fault paleoearthquake records, Geomorphology and Dating
- Earthquake Archaeological Effects (EAE)
- Tsunami and Paleotsunami Geological Records
The implementation of the EEE Catalogue is an essential activity even for this project. In order to contribute to data collection a web interface for remote uploading was defined by ISPRA. For further information go to the corresponding web page.
