Methodologies, information and environmental indicators The disclosure requirements introduced by the regulation on sustainable finance are so substantial and complex that they imply the need for an adequate technical support framework in the implementation phase of the discipline, which helps companies and investors to fully understand the contents and methods for generating the environmental information required by the new standards.

Council Regulation (EU) 2017/997 establishes the methods for hazardous property HP 14 ‘Ecotoxic. The Regulation establishes the criteria for attributing the "ecotoxic" hazard property to waste through the application of the "conventional method", according to which the ecotoxicity is established from a chemical point of view, through the sum of the concentrations of substances classified as "ecotoxic", according to Regulation 2008/1272/EC (CLP regulation).

The report describes the reporting of emissions of transboundary substances that Italy officially communicates in accordance with the requirements of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Convention on Long Range Transboundary Air Pollution (CRLTAP/UNECE) and relevant Protocols.

The Report on Waste from Economic Activities, now in its twenty-third edition, is the result of a complex activity of collection, analysis and processing of data by the National Centre for Waste and Circular Economy of ISPRA, with the contribution of regional and provincial Environmental Protection Agencies. The Report implements a specific task required by article 189, of legislative decree. n. 152 of 3th April 2006.

European Union has addressed more and more effectively the problem of air pollution from vehicular traffic . In this context, environmental specifications for petrol and diesel fuels constitute one of the main elements of the measures adopted at community and national level to reduce atmospheric emissions of pollutants linked to the consumption of fuels .

This report includes data on sulphur content of heavy fuel oil, gas oil and marine fuels used in Italy in 2023. ISPRA processes data from fuels businnes operators and national control autority to determine amount of fuels used and to present results of control activity.

Sustainable tourism in Protected areas: the complex balance between local development needs and biodiversity conservation

The Sustainability Report (SB) is one of the Institute's most recent publications. It stems from the organizational innovation process that ISPRA has been implementing since 2019, in the belief that organizational models also need updating to meet the challenges of sustainability. A tool, the SB, also useful for integration between policies and strategies and for strengthening stakeholder participation. This year it is also in a condensed version and by chapters, with a renewed mode of use.

Coexistence and management of human-wildlife conflicts

The Report describes ISPRA's commitment to environmental protection through the application of civil liability regulations outlined in the sixth part of Legislative Decree 152/2006, highlighting the key role of the National System for Environmental Protection (SNPA) as the technical support for the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security in actions against environmental damage.

National trends of energy and economic indicators have been analysed in relation to greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption. Particular attention was paid to the power sector, one of the main players in the national energy system. The role of driving factors for GHG emission trends has been analyzed, such as economic growth, fossil and renewable energy, transformation efficiency, carbon and energy intensities. Regarding power sector, the emission factors of greenhouse gases have been elaborated. Efficiency and decarbonization indicators have been compared in Italy and in the biggest European Countries. The power sector performances of main European countries have been compared for fuel mixes, transformation efficiencies, and GHG emission factors.

These "Guidelines for the census and monitoring of macromycetes in Italy" are the result of the commitment and involvement of the many participants in the Open Science initiative of the Network for the study of mycological diversity (NMD).

This document describes the outcomes of a collaborative trial on ecotoxicological measurements in which laboratories belonging to public institutions (ISPRA, ARPA/APPA, Universities and other Research Institutes) and private subjects participated. This study led to the validation of a specific method for freshwater environments for conducting the solid-phase bioassay using the bacterium Aliivibrio fischeri.
