INTRUSOPOLY – Educational Game on Alien Species and Marine Litter

Along the way, you’ll encounter alien species and marine litter—discover their secrets and learn how to protect the sea while racing toward a single goal: a healthy, clean marine environment!
What is Intrusopoly?
Intrusopoly is a board game designed by ISPRA for environmental education and public outreach contexts. Using the principles of Game-Based Learning, it introduces players to two major threats to marine ecosystems:
- Alien species
- Marine litter
Both are presented as “invaders” that endanger biodiversity, ecosystems, and even human health. By playing, participants learn key facts and discover the good practices and responsible behaviour needed to counteract their effects.
How the Game Works
Intrusopoly must be led by a game master, i.e., a teacher, educator, researcher, and communicator, with a scientific background. This is a mandatory requirement.
The game master introduces the themes of alien species and marine litter, guides and coordinates the gameplay, and adapts the key information shared with players according to their age and level of knowledge. Under the game master’s guidance, players advance on the board by facing obstacles and opportunities linked to the environmental issues. Each space and card provides insights into alien species or marine litter, helping players understand how some actions can make a difference.
Who Can Play?
- Recommended age: 8+
- Ideal for up to 6 players (larger groups can be organized into teams)
- Suitable for schools, educational events, outreach activities, public awareness events, and similar initiatives.
Available Editions
Two editions of Intrusopoly are currently available:
- 2023 edition –ideal for younger children and primary school students
- 2024 edition – suitable for a wider audience

You can request the Print and Play version of Intrusopoly (2023 and 2024 editions), ready to print and assemble, by completing this request form.
