A relay race for the environment

50th World Environment Day
With the aim to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stockholm Conference, the first world conference on the environment, the UNEP (United Nation Environment Program) has chosen the #OnlyOneEarth theme. In the Universe there are billions of galaxies, in ours there are billions of planets, but there is only one planet Earth. In order for all its inhabitants to survive, humans must lead a sustainable lifestyle, safeguarding limited resources and remaining in harmony with nature. In the Conference of 1972, 26 principles were identified on the conservation and enhancement of the environment, which after 50 years remain a useful guide to follow.

One hundred and more ... millions of years of Park geology

On the occasion of the centenary of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, San Donato Val di Comino (FR) will host a two-day event dedicated to the Geology of the Park!
The appointment is on 3 June 2022 at the "L. Cellucci "of San Donato, where a scientific conference will be held organized by the Park in collaboration with the Department of Engineering and Geology of the University G. d'Annunzio Chieti-Pescara and the participation of ISPRA researchers and the president of the Italian Geology Association and Tourism.

For a sustainable soil management

On 30 May, Politecnico di Milano will hold a conference in which the results of the European project SOIL4Life will be announced and at the same time the CRCS 2022 Report will be presented "Land consumption, ecosystem services and Green infrastructures: Methods, research and innovative projects to increase capital and improve urban resilience ".

Ad limina. Borders and transdisciplinary contaminations in the history of science

From 30 May to 1 June the National Conference of the Italian Society of the History of Science is held in Catania, entitled "Ad limina. Transdisciplinary frontiers and contaminations in the history of science".

Mines National Day 2022: XIV edition

The National Day of Mines, promoted to spread the value and cultural significance of geological tourism, has reached its fourteenth edition this year, registering growing interest throughout the country.
The initiative, organized by REMI-ISPRA-SNPA, MISE, AIPAI, ANIM, ASSOMINERARIA with the patronage of the National Council of Geologists and EuroGeoSurveys, this year in collaboration with the Mining Museum Park of the Sulfur Mines of the Marche and the Emilia-Romagna provides for the organization of events throughout the national territory and the creation of a "national calendar" with all the initiatives promoted by the Sites / Museums and Mining Parks.

The geosites of the Marche. A heritage of geodiversity of exceptional value

During the event, the results achieved by the working group engaged in the collection of data on the geological heritage of the Marche will be presented, also in order to define a regional bill for the protection and enhancement of geosites.

EGU 2022

The General Assembly of EGU 2022 brings together geoscientists from around the world for a meeting that covers all disciplines of the Earth, planetary and space sciences. The EGU aims to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career scientists, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.

Earth observation applied to the management of the carbon cycle and of the irrigation resource within an agricultural district

The first Open School of the Ismea Copernicus Academy project for the National Rural Network will be held on 20, 24, 25, 27 May, mainly addressed to agricultural consultants.
The School is organized by Ismea, PSR AdG of the Region, National Coordination of the Copernicus Academy, States General for Innovation, Federico II University of Naples and ARPA Campania with the participation of ISPRA and CREA.

COP 15 of UNCCD

The biennial meeting of the delegations of 197 signatory countries of the United Nations Convention for the Fight against Desertification and the Effects of Drought - UNCCD will take place in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) from 9 to 20 May 2022, during which the sessions will be held of the Fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP 15) and of the Subsidiary Bodies, i.e. the Twentieth Session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 20) and the Fifteenth Session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST 15). Italy has been a signatory of the UNCCD since 1994.

Annual Meeting Italian Soil Partnership

The Annual Meeting Italian Soil Partnership will be held in Rome on May 4, promoted by the Agriculture and Environment Center and the Center for Policies and Bioeconomy of CREA as part of the SOILHUB Project and the 2014-2020 National Rural Network Project (Project 5.1). The program of the day is divided into three distinct sessions, the first - Global Soil Partnership - FAO Scenarios and initiatives in the field, will be held in the morning, while in the afternoon the Round Table will be held - Possible synergies between the Partnership on the soil and GSP, which will see the participation of Annamaria Bevivino, and finally the last session which will coincide with the closing of the proceedings.

Third day of Geology and History. The big urban areas: notes of archeology, history and geology

The Department of Geological Service of Italy of ISPRA, togher with Italian Geographic Society and Sigea will organize a study day on: "The big urban areas: notes of archeology, history and geology".
The topics addressed in this study day will be Italian cities and current or past geological phenomena, present or hidden under the urban fabric, the correlations between urban geology, history, archeology. This Study Day will be an opportunity to discuss and analyze how the geological events that occurred in Italian cities have affected the territory, the uses and customs of man throughout history.
It will also be an opportunity to confront the scientific world and focus on the importance of multidisciplinary research as well as the need for historical and cartographic research to be combined with geological research in order to provide a complete study of the natural phenomena that make our territory fragile

Geological, economic and social considerations in the management and prevention of seismic risk

The volume “Geological, economic and social considerations in the management and prevention of seismic risk” will be presented on 8 April. The experience of the AVUS Award 6 APRIL 2009. The publication collects the contributions of university professors, researchers and managers of the technical structures of the State, who have analyzed: the historical issues that are at the basis of the seismic emergencies of our territory, the current situation of the seismic hazard map in Italy, the study of faults and the training of students towards these topics.

After 100 years of the death of Torquato Taramelli, the Italian scientific community celebrates the figure of the scientist at the conference "The art of science: the scientific legacy of Torquato Taramelli", highlighting the many facets of a brilliant geologist and refined watercolorist.

GeoAlp Wintercup

The 25th edition (Jubileum) of the GeoAlp Wintercup conference, organized by the autonomous province of Bolzano, will be held from 31 March to 2 April. The conference includes the participation of geologists, engineers, technicians and companies operating in the hydrogeological sector. ISPRA will present a report on the consolidation works recently carried out in the UNESCO site of Petra (Jordan).

Land consumption during in the era of Ecological Transition

Tuesday 29 March 2022 from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm, in the Sala del Cenacolo of the Chamber of Deputies, it will be held the round table: "Land consumption in the era of Ecological Transition", in which the impacts of wild urbanization will be discussed and the environmental, landscape and economic consequences of the unregulated exploitation of the territory.

The soil: a resource to be protected. Final conference of the Soil4Life project

Discover and photograph the geosites of the Italian regions

On 28 March, at 12.30, the presentation of the photographic competition for students organized by ISPRA and SIGEA (Italian Society of Environmental Geology) will be held in the Sala Caduti di Nassirya of the Senate of the Republic.

The collaboration between ISPRA and the Chinese Geological Service has been renewed to face the new global challenges in the geological and environmental fields

The collaboration, which began in 2013, specifically concerns 2 bilateral cooperation projects lasting 3 years in the field of active tectonics and hydrogeology.

AQUAE! World Water Day 2022

The event celebrates the 2022 UN Report dedicated to invisible and underground waters. Institutions, researchers and companies in the presence of secondary school children will illustrate the state of water in Italy and around the world, with the aim of raising  awareness towards public opinion and teenagers.

International Day of Forests

"Sustainable Forests, Production and Consumption" is the theme of the International Day of Forests 2022. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests in 2012 to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests. 

Forests cover a third of the earth's mass, performing vital functions around the world. About 1.6 billion people, including more than 2,000 indigenous cultures, depend on forests for their livelihoods, medicine, fuel, food and shelter.

Forests are the most biologically diverse ecosystems on earth, home to over 80% of terrestrial species of animals, plants and insects. Yet despite all these immense ecological, economic, social and health benefits, global deforestation continues at an alarming rate.

Soil Festival

The Soil Festival will be held on 9-10-11 March. Three days dedicated to soil, a precious, primary and exhaustible asset, organized by Cia, in cooperation with Crea, Ersaf, ISPRA and Legambiente, as part of the Soil4Life project.
The Festival will be hosted by a virtual square accessible at www.ciaperilsuolo.it where theatrical performances, concerts, videos and documentaries will be available and it will be possible to participate in presentations and live events.

Presentation of the Report Landslides and floods in Italy. Edition 2021

Next 7th March ISPRA is presenting the third edtion of the Report hydrogeological instability in Italy: Danger and risk indicators - edition 2021.

The report provides updated data on the danger from landslides and floods throughout the country, coastal erosion and risk indicators relating to population, families, buildings, businesses and cultural heritage.

The event will be broadcast on the Youtube channel ISPRAVIDEO Streaming.
