Results Project Life Montecristo 2010 to eradicate rats

Presented in Montecristo the result of eradication of rats from the island: ISPRA part of the LIFE project

In order to protect the Berta Minore (Puffinus yelkouan), one of the few species of nesting seabirds in the Mediterranean, it is fundamental to limit the presence of the black rat, a predator in Montecristo introduced by man, that makes chicks massacre .

The Montecristo 2010 project, co-funded by the European Union and carried out by the National Forest Service, National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago, National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (Ispra) and a private company for environmental consulting (Nemo srl) , it is bringing good results.
