The soil: tools of knowledge and resource protection

Soil is an unlimited resource but can rapidly deteriorate. It must therefore be studied, managed and protected from unsustainable uses. The webinar aims to provide an insight into the state of this resource and the main potential threats, from consumption to climate change, as well as knowledge and management tools and initiatives.  

ISPRA and the Italian marine protected areas

Marine protected areas are an effective tool to protect marine biodiversity and ensure the sustainable use of resources. ISPRA has made a short video to present the its work of the "Marine Protected Areas" section and the technical-scientific activities to support the Italian Ministry of the Environment. The study activities carried out by ISPRA include investigations of an environmental nature and provide for the involvement of local communities, to acquire the necessary information on environmental values ​​and socio-economic components.

The Italian waste management and recycling industry is changing, with new stakeholders investing in the sector, the rethinking of business models, the consolidation of the industrial structure and a still evolving governance system. These are some of the characteristic features that emerge from the WAS Annual Report 2020 "The Italian industry of the waste management and recycling. Strategies and sectoral convergences”, which develops the most current issues that affect the development of the sector with unpublished analyzes and data.  

Biophysical and economic assessment of four ecosystem services for natural capital accounting in Italy

A group of scientists from ISPRA, the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) and Ikerbasque have demonstrated the feasibility of moving towards a widespread application of SEEA-EEA – the accepted international standard for environmental-economic accounting – compliant country-based accounts. This work represents one of the first studies made available at such geographical scope using k.LAB, the technology powering ARIES, which is poised to automate accounting routines for producers of natural capital accounts.
