The results of the ISPRA national survey on the management of wild boar in Italy in the period 2015-2021 were presented at a Confagricoltura event

By 2021 estimated one and a half million wild boars in Italy. In seven years, the knocking down increased by 45. Damage to agriculture for €120 million. Abruzzo and Piemonte are the most affected regions

Wild boars, the growth of knocking down (or levies) and damages continues: in the period 2015-21 the levy of wild boars increased by 45% and on average around 300,000 wild boars were killed per year (of which 257,000 in ordinary hunting and 42,000 in wildlife control interventions). Over the same period, the annual amounts of damage to agriculture fluctuated between €14.6 and €18.7 million, with the annual average exceeding €17 million.
These are some of the results of the first detailed survey on a national scale that ISPRA carried out thanks to the information provided by the Regions and protected areas and which the Institute communicated to the Ministers of the Environment and Agriculture.
