City Nature Challenge 2023: a walk to discover the biodiversity of the Appia Antica Regional Park with the expert botanists and naturalists of ISPRA The National Biodiversity Network (NNB) of ISPRA is among the partners of the National Academy of Sciences, an organization that this year has joined the international initiative City Nature Challenge (CNC), the great Citizen Science event on urban biodiversity that will take place from 28 April to 1 May.

City Nature Challenge 2023

The City Nature Challenge , the international biodiversity data collection event, is coming. From April 28th to May 1st everyone is ready to participate!!! The citizens of the cities adhering to the CNC compete with each other to observe and record on an application, Inaturalist , the greatest number of naturalistic observations made in their own city. The initiative was sponsored by various institutions including ISPRA/SNPA and the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security.

ISPRA and SNPA at the Rome Science Festival

The 18th edition of the Rome Science Festival will be held from 18 to 23 April 2023 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica "Ennio Morricone". IMMAGINARI is the theme of this edition dedicated to the imagination, one of the most powerful tools that allows us to conceive works of art, new technologies and allows us to find solutions to everyday problems. ISPRA is scientific partner of the event and this year organizes the SNPA conference entitled "Communicate the environment" within the event: a morning of discussion (Wednesday 19 April 9.30-14) with some protagonists of the world information and environmental divulgation to analyze how we are reporting the environment through the media and how we will be called to do in the future. Together with this appointment, ISPRA promotes a series of initiatives during the week of the Festival.

National Sea Day

April 11 is National Sea Day, established by Legislative Decree 229/2017. This year the main facade of Palazzo Chigi in Piazza Colonna in Rome will be illuminated in blue from 20.00 to 24.00. ISPRA has various activities for the protection of the sea: bathing waters, coastal erosion, sustainable aquaculture, impacts and environmental management of ports and coastal marine sediments, oceanic posidonia, weather forecasts of the Hydro-Meteo-Mare System and Mareographic Network National and the Venice Lagoon. Change the air: Aer Nostrum and future scenarios in port cities

ISPRA to RISCARTI "International Festival of Creative Recycling"

Final event of the Project LIFE SWIPE

From 12 to 14 April, the final event of the LIFE SWiPE project will be held in Rome, the aim of which is to reduce crimes against nature by improving compliance with EU environmental law. The Project was born to improve the fight against crime in nature, through direct collaboration with magistrates, representatives of law enforcement, and with all those who have a role in the investigation and prosecution of crimes against wildlife.

Signed Framework Agreement of the Italian Network of Geological Services

The Italian Network of Geological Services (RISG) is a coordination network between Ispra and the Regions, Autonomous Provinces and ARPA having competence in the geological field at regional level. The RISG was born in 2018 starting from the reorganization of the Geological Coordination Committee between the State and the Regions, established in 2000 (Law 365/2000); the reorganization envisaged a Network structure divided into two levels: a strategic level represented by the Board of Directors and a technical level represented by the Thematic Tables, both supported by a Technical Secretariat.

National Sea Day The discovery of the University of Palermo as part of the oceanographic campaign financed by ISPRA for the creation of the sheet of the "Sciacca" Geological Map About 7.5 nautical miles from Sciacca, last March 17, during the acquisition of acoustic data with a Side Scan Sonar, which give images of the seabed, the marine geology group of the University of Palermo detected a submerged body: the acoustic image displayed on the monitor showed a shape similar to an aircraft wreck, about 20 meters long

Tor Caldara: an itinerary through geology, environment and history

Geological walks with ISPRA The Tor Caldara Nature Reserve is located south of Rome, between Anzio and Lavinio, and represents a geological-environmental "diamond" of unique value. The area is a rare testimony of the ancient coastal forests along the coast of southern Lazio and until recently it was exploited for the mining of sulfur, the presence of which is linked to the secondary activity of the Lazio volcanic district. The excursion will lead visitors to discover the geological and environmental characteristics of the Reserve, which is particularly suitable for educational purposes due to the spectacular secondary volcanic phenomena still active and the naturalistic importance of the habitats present

The geological walks of ISPRA During the excursion, the geological and geomorphological characteristics of the territory and the changes both to the environment and to the ecosystem produced by human activities will be described. From the observation point of the monumental bridge of Mezzocammino, on the GRA, it is possible to see the work of cutting the Spinaceto bight of the Tiber, the so-called Drizzagno.

In the confrontation with the governor of Trentino Alto Adige, Minister Gilberto Pichetto asks for maximum sharing with ISPRA on the identification of dangerous subjects. Starts technical table on critical Alpine arc. The Minister of the Environment and Energy Security has met this morning the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti. The meeting, which took place in the headquarters of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, was also attended by the president of ISPRA, Stefano Laporta; the head of the Civil Protection department of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Raffaele De Col and, in web connection, the provincial councilor for agriculture, Giulia Zanotelli.

Land degradation and Healthy soils: towards a glossary and monitoring system

ISPRA, in cooperation with CREA and with Teagasc, in the context of the EJP SOIL Program and in particular of the WP8 dedicated to the interface between Science and Politics, will organize a webinar to discuss the topic of Land degradation. The event will be an opportunity to analyze how Europe is moving on this important challenge, which since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, in line with the implementation of SDG 15, and following the recommendations of the Court of Auditors European, the European Commission has included in the EU Soil Strategy for 2030.

Summer school of Geomorphology, Ecology and Biology in the marine and island environment

The fourth edition of the "Summer School of Geomorphology, Ecology and Biology in the marine and insular environment", organized by ISPRA will take place in Favignana (Egadi Islands) from 11 September 2023 and will last 6 days in which frontal lessons will alternate with practical activities. The school has the patronage of the Marine Protected Area "Egadi Islands", the Institute of Environmental Geology and Geoengineering of the CNR, the Municipality of Favignana and the Regional Agency for the Protection of the Environment (ARPA Sicily).
