The European Commission's communication on alien species

 

In the first days of December, the European Commission presented a Communication on invasive species, which calls for the development of a common strategy to deal with alien species that threaten biodiversity in Europe. Every year, the fight against invasive species represents a cost for European economy of at least 12 billion euros. In addition only some member states have adopted legislation to protect biodiversity at a national level, while there is no common harmonized approach in the EU.
