The Commission's proposals on energy
On November 13, 2008 the European Commission presented a
comprehensive set of rules designed to promote energy security in
the EU, called "Second Strategic Energy Review - Securing our
Energy Future." The Commission proposes a new strategy for
solidarity between Member States about energy and a new policy to
encourage investment in more efficient energy networks, which can
distribute electricity with low carbon emissions.
The document examines the issues that Europe will face between 2020
and 2050.
A set of proposals is also presented, to promote energy saving in
some key areas such as buildings, strengthening the legislation
about it, and energy consuming products, giving greater importance
to the certification of energy performance.
