European Pollutant Emission Register

May 28

The Council of Ministers, upon proposal of the Minister for the Environment and Protection of land and sea, Stefania Prestigiacomo, approved on May 28 a scheme of regulation for the adaptation to the Italian legislation frame of the EU Regulation 166/2006 (European Pollutant Emission Register). The EU Regulation 166/2006 was adopted by the EU to ratify the Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer of pollutants, resulting from the Aarhus Convention on the access to the decision process on the environment issues. The Register was therefore established in all the EU Member States. It extends the number of operators required to declare to the Ministry of Environment, through ISPRA, the quantity of pollutants that are released in land, air and water. The citizen will have access to the informationt through the National Register of Pollutant Release and Transfer, electronically accessible.
