Reduction of CO2 emissions

Signed the Pact of Mayors

In the hall of the European Parliament, the mayors of more than 350 European cities, representing more than 60 million citizens have signed, February 10, the Pact of Mayors.
The agreement commits the government of the cities to reduce their CO2 emissions beyond the parameters laid down by Community.
The agreement will promote greater perception of citizens of the efforts put in place by local governments to reduce CO2 emissions, producing a greater involvement of the same in the fight against climate change.
The mayors, in fact, in order to satisfy the "pact" will take concrete measures that affect the daily lives of citizens and according to the mayor of Budapest, "the pact will be the leading force of environmental policy in Europe."
Failure to achieve the goals or failure to put in place appropriate measures by local authorities, will lead to expulsion from the pact.
In Italy more than 30 cities are signatories of the Pact, including Turin, Milan, Foggia, while the mayor of Rome has already indicated his intention to join soon.
It was also opened an internet site of the "Pact of Mayors", which will serve as the portal and support structure for the participating cities as well as citizens.
