The prestigious award is given annually by the European Commission to good projects in the field of renewable energy, with the aim to raise awareness and promote the development of initiatives about energy in Europe.
This year were present more than 250 projects, divided into five categories: Cooperation programs, demonstration projects and dissemination, and changes in the market (including voluntary commitments), promotional and educational actions, and sustainable energy communities.
In the latter category recognition went both to Italy and the United Kingdom, for our country the prize was awarded to the "Consorzio Produttori Agricoli Acque Minerali Umbre s.r.l., Acquasparta" a consortium from Umbria composed of regional farmers and local communities. The purpose of this project is to produce renewable energy using wood and agricultural biomass, leading to sustainable regional development.
