ISPRA: characterization of the seabed facing the Site of National Interest of Sulcis-Iglesiente-Guspinese

Along the Italian coast there are numerous areas compromised because of previous or current industrial activities. Some of these areas have been recognized as "sites of national interest" (SIN) and were object of restoration measures. Among these we find the SIN of Sulcis-Iglesiente-Guspinese in South-West Sardinia, particularly the stretch of sea that extends from the Gulf of Palmas in the south up to Campu 'e Sali to the north and a further area in front of the industrial site of Sarroch. Last May activities of environmental characterization of the seabed have started. Such activities involve taking samples of sediment along the coast, in order to verify their state of environmental quality, considering the numerous and prolonged production and
mining activities carried out in the area.
