The four new Italian wetlands recognized as being of international importance are: the mouth of the Isonzo-Isola della Cona in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lake Sibolla, the Orti-Bittegone Marsh, the Ex Lago and the Bertina Marsh in Tuscany.
The recognition was also achieved thanks to data on aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity made available by the National Biodiversity Network and ISPRA's BIO-SOST service.
