In article 9, the protection of the environment, biodiversity and ecosystems was included among the fundamental principles of the Constitution, also in the interest of future generations, recalling the need to protect animals through state laws. In article 41, however, the principle was established that private economic initiative, although free, cannot be carried out in such a way as to cause damage to the environment and that economic activity, both public and private, must be directed and coordinated by law also for environmental purposes.
