ISPRA–Nebrodi Park Agreement for Biodiversity Monitoring

ISPRA and the Nebrodi Park Authority have signed a three-year agreement for the development of joint activities focused on monitoring, studying, and conserving biodiversity within the territory of the Nebrodi Park.

The collaboration combines ISPRA’s scientific expertise with the institutional and management role of the Park Authority and focuses on two key components of the Park’s ecosystems: mycological diversity, with particular reference to macrofungi, and the faunal component, especially avifauna of conservation interest.

Activities related to mycological biodiversity are carried out within a dedicated Network coordinated by ISPRA and include field surveys, the collection of ecological data using standardized protocols, validation of information through the Fungi Information System (SIF), and the preservation of specimens in the ISPRA database. The results will contribute to expanding and making more consistent the knowledge of the Park’s fungal diversity.

Faunal monitoring activities will focus on species of particular conservation significance, notably the golden eagle and the red-billed chough, and will be aimed at strengthening ecological knowledge and supporting conservation and land-management actions through data collection and analysis, scientific support, and the definition of guidance useful for species protection.

The Agreement will help strengthen the biodiversity information base of the Nebrodi Park, supporting conservation policies, sustainable habitat management, and the scientific and naturalistic enhancement of one of the most significant environmental contexts in the Mediterranean.
