Observe and Report Biodiversity Around You – Even While on Holiday!
Take part in "Biodiversity in Focus", an initiative of ISPRA's National Biodiversity Network dedicated to collecting and sharing citizen observations of wildlife, plants, and natural environments.
Through its integration with the iNaturalist app, "Biodiversity in Focus" enables anyone, at any time, to share photographs of nature with the National Biodiversity Network. Whether taken by professional or amateur photographers, these images provide valuable biodiversity records and contribute to the Network's growing database of citizen-generated observations.
The data collected through the initiative are integrated into the National Biodiversity Network database, and every observation helps scientists gather valuable information on the status and health of biodiversity.
Images shared by participants may be used in the National Biodiversity Network's communication activities, with full credit given to the author.
How to Participate
To take part, download the iNaturalist app and create an account using your smartphone or by registering on the iNaturalist website.
Once you have accessed the app or website, simply search for the "Biodiversity in Focus" project in the Projects section. You can then start contributing by photographing the plants, animals, and other forms of biodiversity you encounter whenever you spend time outdoors, whether at the seaside, in the mountains, or in any natural environment.
About iNaturalist
iNaturalist is a platform that uses photographs, short videos, and sound recordings to help identify terrestrial and marine plants and animals. It is also one of the world's largest social networks for nature observation, bringing together naturalists, scientists, biologists, and members of the public to map and share biodiversity observations from around the globe.
Joining the community is simple: register for an account and upload the photographs or sound recordings you collect during your outdoor activities, making sure to include the precise geographic location where each observation was made. Once an observation has been verified by the iNaturalist community, it becomes available to researchers and scientists studying the recorded species or the biodiversity of the area in which it was observed.
