The biodiversity of the “Sentiero del bosco” mapped by students
Concluded the third edition of the Path for Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTO) "Let's build a WebApp for monitoring species in the territory" promoted by the National Network for Biodiversity of ISPRA has concluded.
The recently concluded edition saw the participation of nine students from the Liceo Scientifico Statale “Aristotele” in Rome, who had the opportunity to contribute to the creation of an information system on the Natural Monument of the “Fosso della Cecchignola”, a green area managed by the RomaNatura Agency. Thanks to a WebApp, created in open source, the participants collected data and information on the plant species present along the “Sentiero del bosco”, the deepest and richest portion of biodiversity in the area under study.
The field surveys, conducted together with the Institute's researchers, were followed by a phase of analysis of the georeferenced data collected and, with the integration with other sets of environmental data, the creation of a thematic map. The results of the work conducted by the students were collected in a final Report published on the NNB website as a contribution to a real environmental monitoring project on a cartographic basis
