The new Environmental Governance lessons are coming

It officially began last March 18th, the new School-to-Work Training Path (PFSL), formerly PCTO, titled “A Lesson in Environmental Governance: Discovering Actions for the Mediterranean Sea and Its Coasts”, organized by the Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale (ISPRA) and promoted by the Regional Activity Centre for Information and Communication (INFO/RAC).

Now in its fourth edition, the course involves 18 students from the Liceo Scientifico Statale Vito Volterra in Ciampino (Rome), who will have the opportunity to explore the roles and functions of some of the main international and national institutions engaged in environmental protection.

Among the topics covered are UNEP Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP), the Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea, the European Environment Agency (EEA), ISPRA, the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE), the decision-making mechanisms of the Conference of the Parties (COP) negotiations, and the Mediterranean Regional Activity Centres and their activities, with particular reference to INFO/RAC.

The program includes a total of 22 hours of training, during which students will have the opportunity to engage with and meet representatives from the Regional Activity Centre for Information and Communication (INFO/RAC) and the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE).

Theoretical lessons will be complemented by workshop activities designed to stimulate interest in producing outreach materials on the main topics covered during the course.

Among this year’s new features is the creation of GAMed, the first game dedicated to actions for the protection of the Mediterranean Sea and its coasts. The game is inspired by the traditional “Game of the Goose,” in which participants will navigate through concepts, ideas, and terminology related to the themes explored in the training program. It will be developed with the active contribution of the students, who will play a key role in all stages of its creation, being involved throughout the entire training process.

Finally, on May 22, 2026, an Info-Day will be organized at the high school, during which students will act as ambassadors, sharing with their peers what they have learned and developed, also through the GAMed game
