WAVEGUARD project

ISPRA is a partner in the WAVEGUARD project, funded by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Malta 2021-2027 Programme. The project aims to mitigate risks associated with extreme marine-weather events—which are becoming increasingly frequent and intense due to climate change—with a focus on medicanes and meteotsunamis in the Strait of Sicily. Observational networks will be installed and upgraded in Italy and Malta, prototype warning systems and hydrodynamic models will be developed, and emergency management exercises will be conducted.
