 nited Nations in 1997\, Italy will mark a major double milestone on 2 Febr
 uary: World Wetlands Day and the 50th anniversary of Italy’s ratificatio
 n of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance\, signe
 d in Ramsar\, Iran\, in 1971.   The theme chosen for World Wetlands Day 20
 26\, “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage\
 ,” aims to highlight the contribution of local communities and tradition
 al knowledge to sustainable management practices and ecosystem restoration
 . This integrated approach\, bringing together science\, culture\, and ter
 ritory\, is essential to counter the global decline of wetlands and to str
 engthen the resilience of natural systems.
