MedJICARP Project
As part of the international project MedJICARP – Mediterranean Joint Initiative for Climate Adaptation and Risk Prevention, which aims to strengthen transnational cooperation for climate risk prevention and adaptation in Mediterranean coastal areas, ISPRA contributes by providing support through its well-established expertise in operational oceanography, coastal monitoring, and environmental data standardization.
In particular, ISPRA is involved in several project activities, playing a leading role in Work Package 5 (WP5), where the Institute leads actions focused on strengthening technical skills, promoting knowledge sharing, and engaging stakeholders, with special attention to HF radar technology for marine monitoring. Among the planned activities, ISPRA will host researchers and students at its headquarters or at HF radar installation sites, offering practical training on marine observation technologies and data analysis.
Through its participation in the project, ISPRA aims to promote interoperability among Mediterranean observation systems, improving the collection and analysis of ocean data. The expected outcomes include:
-
the definition of a shared framework for sea state monitoring;
-
the strengthening of regional institutional capacities in climate risk management;
-
the development of more informed policies for coastal resilience.
ISPRA’s contribution includes:
-
promoting data sharing among institutions and observation systems;
-
developing best practices for marine and coastal environmental monitoring;
-
training a new generation of experts capable of addressing climate adaptation challenges in the Mediterranean.
