MEET is aimed at the improvement and implementation of scientific networks dedicated to Earth monitoring and observation. In addition to INGV, which is its coordinator, 8 other excellences of Italian research will be involved in the project: the National Research Council (CNR), ISPRA, the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS), the University of Studies of Naples Federico II of Naples, the University of Bari Aldo Moro, the University of Roma Tre, the University of Genoa and the University of Trieste.

There are four main objectives of the project:

  1. the technological upgrading of large observation networks and scientific laboratories;
  2. the development of two natural observatories (the Pizzi Deneri Observatory on Etna and Sos Enattos in Sardinia);
  3. new implementations of scientific instrumentation in the Messina Strait area, in Irpinia and in the southern Ionian area;
  4. the implementation of innovative IT platforms of services for science and society by sharing with the entire international scientific community in the Italian Portal for Earth Sciences the new resources, the data collected and the research products according to principles codified at European level, such as Open Access and FAIR (Findable Accessible Interoperable Reusable).

ISPRA is responsible for Activities 1.7 "Strengthening the Hydrogeochemical data management platform" of Work Package WP1 (stREngthening the National nEtWorks data production - RENEW) and 11.9b "Geological data and services provision and fault geometries interoperability layers" of WP11 (Italian Platform for Solid Earth Science – IPSES).
