Biomaterials, Biofuels, CO2 Sequestration and Circularity. Study on the implementability of Biorefineries in the Lazio Region (BBCircle)

The BBCircle project, based on the resources referred to in the Public Notice "Research Groups 2020" - POR FESR Lazio 2014-2020 - Action 1.2.1 - approved with Resolution no. G08487 of 07/19/2020 - published in BURL N.93 of 07/23/2020 - amended with Determination n. G10624 / 2020 - published in BURL n. 116 of 22/09/2020 of the LAZIO REGION, it is proposed to evaluate, through a context survey, an experimental campaign at a laboratory scale and a theoretical analysis phase conducted by analyzing the life cycle and circularity indicators, the technical feasibility and environmental performance of systems, applicable locally for the production of energy carriers with very high efficiency (biohydrogen) and adsorbent or soil improver materials (hydrochar) through biochemical, electrochemical and thermal processes applied to biodegradable organic waste and waste.
Specific attention will be paid to reducing net CO2 emissions from the various processes that make up the proposed systems, through integration with CO2 sequestration treatments.
The bio-refinery approach will be adopted, starting from organic waste and biodegradable waste from urban settlements or from the agro-industrial sector as well as alkaline industrial residues.
The project envisages a collaboration between research organizations present on the regional territory: University of Rome “La Sapienza” (Lead partner), University of Niccolò Cusano, University of Rome Tor Vergata and ISPRA.

The person responsible for ISPRA is Eng. Geneve Farabegoli.
