Annual report on the sulphur content of heavy fuel oil, gas oil and marine fuels used in 2024

This report presents data relating to sulfur content of heavy fuel oil, diesel fuel, and marine fuels used in Italy in 2024, as required by national legislation (article 298, paragraph 2-bis of Legislative Decree 152/2006).The amounts of different type of fuel examined in this report were determined on the basis of data from operators and inspection authorities. The results of ispection on sulphur
content of marine fuels used on board in national territorial seas and sulphur content of fuels in
storage facility are also reported.

European Union has addressed more and more effectively the problem of air pollution from vehicular traffic. In this context, environmental specifications for petrol and diesel fuels constitute one of the main elements of the measures adopted at community and national level to reduce atmospheric emissions of pollutants linked to the consumption of fuels.
The standards of fuels quality available today are the result of a technological development and a set of regulatory measures during the years in order to ensure protection of health and the environment.
This report presents the activities carried out by ISPRA in national monitoring of the quality of automotive fuels and explains data concerning the specifications of the fuels produced, imported and marketed in 2024
