Bioeconomy Changemakers Festival

From 11 to 17 March 2024, the European Commission organized the Bioeconomy Changemakers Festival, a week of events on the bioeconomy to make young people more aware of the ecological and sustainable transition, and involve them personally as actors of change. APRE and FVA New Media Research with the GenB project, ScienzaInsieme, and Cluster SPRING, will organize the Italian satellite event “Bioeconomy Changemakers Festival – Rome Edition”.

Photo contest "RAMOGE: Man and the Sea"

Under the auspices of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP)

The RAMOGE Agreement, which brings together Italy, France and the Principality of Monaco in the protection of Mediterranean coastal waters, launched on 15 February the third edition of the international photography contest "RAMOGE - Man and the Sea". LIFETURTLENEST launches a survey on socio-economic benefits

At the beginning of its second year of activities, the EU Project LIFE Turtlenest has launched a survey on socio-economic benefits produced in order to assess the impact of the project. This survey is useful to evaluate the level of Knowledge and awareness on topics linked to the conservation of marine turtles and the interest of key actors to carry on concrete actions for the protection of nature together with the project.

Three views of Rome: above, through, below

The event will be dedicated to the discussion of the first results of the work of mapping the projects and transformations in progress in Rome, as well as the presentation of  the Roma050 Laboratory.

The two-day program is developed through two main sections: "Visions and Cities" and "Ideas for Rome".

The Frontiers of Ecotoxicology

Organized by the Department of Pharmacy of the Federico University, the meeting is aimed at highlighting the role of ecotoxicology in the assessment of environmental quality and risk and the importance of the ecotoxicological approach in environmental management and remediation. Experts from the university sector, the CNR Water Research Institute, ISPRA,  Istituto Superiore di Sanità and Arpa Campania will participate as speakers.

Reduce losses, strengthen the recovery and reuse of purified water, guarantee security of supplies

On February 27th there will be the second appointment of the public consultation of the Climate Adaptation Strategy of Rome Capital.

There are four priority critical issues to address: the greater intensity of rainfall and floods; the security of water supplies in scenarios where there are greater periods of drought; the growth of heat waves in a city with neighborhoods at risk due to the so-called 'island effect' of urban heat and the intensification of impacts on the coastal coast in a scenario of rising sea levels.

The new challenges of Municipalities for the circular economy: The XIII 2023 ANCI-CONAI database report on separate waste collection and recycling

The event aims to present the data of the XIII ANCI-CONAI 2023 Report, relating to the 2022 year, on the topics of separate collection and recycling of packaging waste, on which ANCI and CONAI are engaged. During the meeting, the results of the assistance and support activities for the Municipalities will also be highlighted, with respect to the drafting of the development projects for separate waste collection.

Interventions and works at reclamation sites: regulatory and technical aspects

The alga Rugulopteryx okamurae is the first and only macroalgae species to be included in the list of invasive alien species of notable importance of the European Union, whose negative effects on the environment and biodiversity in Europe are so serious as to require intervention concerted effort of the Member States of the Union. It represents one of the main threats to biodiversity and the functioning of ecosystems in coastal habitats, with possible repercussions on seaside activities and fishing with financial losses estimated at several million euros.

Preserving the natural heritage of wolves: a multidisciplinary approach towards effective and socially acceptable management of wolf-dog hybridization across Europe.
WOLFNESS aims to improve the conservation status of the wolf (Canis lupus) in Europe consequently to its re-expansion, not only in natural contexts but also in anthropized areas, where the risk of anthropogenic hybridization between wolves and domestic dogs (WDH) could be high. ISPRA joins the communication campaign "M'illumino di meno"

National day of energy saving and sustainable lifestyles

The Regions and the challenge of climate neutrality

Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service Project - Environmental Monitoring and Protection at a National Level

The project represents a milestone in the field of atmospheric monitoring in Italy, as it promotes development actions based on real user needs, encouraging specific communication and information activities. Launched with the signing of the agreement between the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and ISPRA on 14 December 2022, the initiative aims to improve the performance of existing national models based on the products of the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service – CAMS) provided by ECMWF Thanks to CAMS, it is possible to monitor in real time and predict the presence of pollutants in the atmosphere, thus helping to ensure a better understanding of the environment around us and to make informed decisions for our health and well-being.

The National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PNACC) approved

The National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PNACC) was definitively approved in December 2023 to implement the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (SNAC). In addition to the Plan and its annexes, the data packages used for its definition by the CMCC (Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change) are available on the National Platform for Adaptation to Climate Change. In particular, it is possible to download indicators relating to the climate for the reference period and future scenarios for land and marine areas.
The documentation (n.162 Documents) of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) procedure to which the PNACC was subjected for its definitive approval is also available.

LIFE Conceptu Maris: the campaign CItizen Science 2004 is starting

The Citizen Science 2024 campaign by LIFE Conceptu Maris officially begins again, thanks to which the citizens most sensitive to the issues addressed by the project, after having attended an online training course, can board the ferries together with the researchers along one of the 17 available routes and thus contribute to the monitoring of cetaceans and turtles.
The main news this year is the opening of the route between the Spanish port of Barcelona and the Moroccan port of Tangier.

Satellite images to support planning and monitoring of the territory

The conference aims to be a training opportunity to learn about the “Local Climate Zones and Open Data Cube (LCZ-ODC)” project, managed by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) together with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DICA) of the Polytechnic of Milan (Polimi).
