Abstract

GELSO - Local management for sustainability is an ISPRA project aiming at the

dissemination of good practices for sustainability implemented at local level in Italy.

Its database collects more than 1000 good practices promoted by local authorities,

associations, research institutions, schools, universities and private entities. The

majority of good practices concerns implemented actions in urban areas. The primary

objective of GELSO is setting up a "network" for active exchange of information

between all subjects involved in local implementation of sustainability measures.

As in previous years, this edition of the Report on Urban environmental quality aims

to gather information about local sustainability experiences achieved in major Italian

cities.

The analysis detects priority activities of each Administration and gives information on

their projects identified as "good practices", allowing us to develop the following

indicators corresponding to some of the areas of intervention of GELSO database:

Integrated strategies and public participation initiatives, Energy, Mobility, Waste,

Land and Landscape

. Finally there is a summary indicator that shows the percentage

distribution of good practices found in all areas of intervention of the database

GELSO.

With regard to 12 new cities included in this Report (Cuneo, Imperia, Pavia, Rovigo,

Pisa, Ascoli Piceno, Rieti, Teramo, Avellino, Trani, Crotone and Trapani) a detailed

analysis of the websites and the answers of municipal administrations to our

information requests showed that prevalent environmental issues are those relating

to

Integrated strategies and public participation initiatives, Energy, Mobility, Waste.

As to the other 73 cities the updated survey points out selected good practices are

mainly concentrated in areas

Integrated strategies and public participation initiatives,

Land and Landscape, Mobility, Energy and Waste

.

The data are updated to July 2015.
