The Convention, signed by 196 countries, has the triple objective of conserving genetic, species and landscape biodiversity; promote its sustainable use; guarantee a fair and equitable sharing of the benefits that derive from nature and biodiversity.

During the meetings, the representatives of the governments of the countries that have signed the Convention and of non-state organizations have the opportunity to exchange their views on some of the key items of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (post-2020 GBF), an international treaty that will define the plans, objectives and targets in the short (2030) and long term (2050) to halt and reverse the dramatic decline of nature and biodiversity.

The agreement is to be reached at the 15th meeting of the CBD Conference of the Parties (COP-15) to be held in China late this year.

During the meeting, Parties and observers have the opportunity to present their views on: Global post-2020 biodiversity framework, objectives, targets and indicators; synthetic biology; risk assessment and management of living modified organisms; marine and coastal biodiversity; biodiversity and agriculture; invasive alien species; work program of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

ISPRA experts participate to the works, providing scientific technical support and policy advice to the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Territory and the Sea.
