The fourth report on the contaminated sites management at regional level
The fourth report on the contaminated sites management at regional level, presents data on administrative and technical procedures updated to 01/01/2024. This update is based on data provided by Regional and Autonomous Provincial authorities, as well as Environmental Protection Agencies, as part of the 2024 population of MOSAICO, the national database on remediation procedures.
The report includes general analyses of the 16,365 ongoing and 22,191 concluded procedures recorded in
MOSAICO. It then focuses on a more environmentally significant subset: the 17,406 procedures that have
passed the Characterization Plan approval stage.
The report analyses the progress in the management and the contamination status of ongoing procedures,
the closure methods of the completed ones, the age of the procedures and their time duration. It also looks
at the areas involved in remediation procedures, the type of legal procedures adopted, the subjects in
charge of the procedure, the orphan sites and the geographical distribution of the procedures.
Finally, this edition introduces a preliminary analysis of intervention technologies, and a dedicated section
focusing on regional specificities regarding both technical and administrative aspects.
