The Summer School on “Marine-Coastal Ecosystems and Climate Change: Chains of Connections and Resilience” was held in Trieste. The event was organized by ISPRA (Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) as part of its School of Specialization in Environmental Disciplines.

The training event was hosted at the beautiful, green surroundings of the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Research (OGS).
Held over five days, the Summer School offered an intensive programme combining classroom lectures with hands-on laboratory activities and guided visits to sites of particular environmental and scientific interest in the area.
Specifically aimed at recent Master’s graduates, PhD students and recent PhD graduates, the course sought to provide a practical approach to academic knowledge and skills, demonstrating how these can be effectively applied to the sustainable management of coastal areas.
At the heart of the initiative was the aim of building a strong bridge between academia and applied research, while also opening up new career opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
More specifically, the educational programme focused on three key thematic areas:

Marine and coastal environments and their ecological dynamics;

The impact of climate change on marine and coastal systems;

Climate change adaptation strategies and solutions.
Through this initiative, ISPRA reaffirms its commitment to advanced professional training, investing in the next generation of professionals to address the environmental and climate challenges of our time.
