Greenhouse gas emissions in Italy: reduction targets and emission scenarios

The report (in Italian) outlines the Italian emission picture from 1990 to 2023, highlighting current trends and identifying the key factors influencing greenhouse gas emission trends.

There is also an analysis of emission scenarios with a 2030 and 2055 horizon, both considering the reference scenario (with current policies) and the scenario with additional policies. As regards the Effort Sharing regulation, the reference scenario with policies adopted up to 2022 shows that Italy is not able to achieve the required reduction in emissions (-43.7% to 2030 compared to 2005 levels). For this reason, a scenario including the further reduction policies identified in the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan has been elaborated and is also presented, a scenario which, however, still shows a certain distance between the annual emission reduction targets of the Effort Sharing regulation for the period 2021-2030.
