Among the highlights, the Workshop “Keep on Gramping 3.0”, saw Conceptu Maris significantly contribute to the knowledge of Risso’s dolphin. The event fostered an in-depth scientific dialogue on the social behavior, distribution and habitat of this incredible and complex species. Significant changes were observed by scientists in different areas of Europe, highlighting the urgent need to understand how this species is coping with climate change and increasing environmental pressures. Scientists from different regions of Europe shared observations that underline the need for concrete actions for the conservation of Risso’s dolphin, launching a strong call for increased collective efforts.
During the Video Night of the ECS 2025 Conference, the project video entitled “Building the Big Picture” was presented. The film illustrated CONCEPTU MARIS’ innovative approach to standardize data collection on marine life during ocean crossings, promoting a virtuous collaboration between scientists and enthusiasts. The video inspired the audience, inviting new researchers to join the Life CONCEPTU MARIS and FLT Med Net community, a big family united by a common mission: protecting marine biodiversity.
Another significant moment was the meeting with the project partners and new participants recruited from the Conference audience. Through the narration of the monitoring methodologies, which integrate visual observations on cetaceans and sea turtles with analyses of e-DNA and isotopes collected by ferries, valuable insights emerged from the new CONCEPTU auditors. This exchange strengthened the synergies with new interested scientists and allowed to set the next deadlines to keep the project on the right track towards its final objectives.
The integrated approach of CONCEPTU MARIS was the focus of 15 posters presented in two dedicated sessions, curated by partners such as ISPRA, Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, University of Turin, University of Milano-Bicocca, University of Valencia and CIMA Research Foundation. The sessions stimulated a lively exchange of ideas, with questions and suggestions that involved the entire CONCEPTU MARIS team, confirming the value of scientific collaboration.
