Urban Ecology: A Journal for Nature in the City

The issue of the magazine Ecologia Urbana is available online, which takes up and delves into the experience of two ISPRA researchers who, as part of the Path for Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTO) promoted by the National Biodiversity Network, detected the presence of a rare mushroom, Rhodotus palmatus, within the Natural Monument of the "Fosso della Cecchignola" managed by the RomaNatura Agency.

The training program, which includes field activities aimed at the direct observation of species according to the principles of Citizen Science, will again this year take place in an urban green area. Ecologia Urbana is a journal dedicated to “Nature in the City,” covering various environmental topics and collecting and publishing the results of studies conducted on biodiversity in urban environments. By involving the broader public through a Citizen Science approach, urban biodiversity research provides a knowledge base about the territory, contributing to the dissemination of data and information on “urban green space management,” “problematic/opportunistic species,” and “land consumption”—some of the environmental quality indicators for urban areas included in the annual reports published by ISPRA.

In this issue of Ecologia Urbana, for example, there is an in-depth analysis of land sealing and green space management in municipalities with the highest levels of land consumption, as highlighted in the latest edition of the ISPRA Report Soil consumption, territorial dynamics and ecosystem services.

Finally, of particular interest to experts and researchers are the new “methodological guidelines for urban ornithological atlases,” published 30 years after the first edition.
