International Symposium on Agricultural Innovation for Family Farmers

The International Agricultural Innovation for Family Farmers Symposium will be held from 21 to 23 November at the headquarters of FAO in Rome. The main objective is to contribute to the knowledge of the possibilities offered by technological innovation to support rural development, also enhancing its socio-economic potential. The Symposium aims to:

  • Serve as a global knowledge and partnership platform to better understand the potential of innovation in agriculture to address the SDGs, with a special focus on supporting smallholder and family farmers
  • Increase understanding of the drivers of innovation and the main constraints
  • Propose processes, pathways and interventions needed to unlock the potential of innovation in agriculture and scaling up inclusive innovations;
  • Celebrate inspiring success stories of innovation and innovators in sustainable agriculture
  • Act as a catalyst for boosting partnerships as well as public and private investments to foster and scale up agricultural innovation
  • together with CREA, ISPRA contributes to an event to be held at the end of the first day of work, always at FAO headquarters, during which the tasting of typical Italian products will be offered and to which the Undersecretary for Agriculture will participate. Alessandra Pesce, the President of the Agriculture Committee of the Chamber, Hon. Filippo Gallinella, the President of CREASalvatore Parlato and the ISPRA President Stefano Laporta.

Together with the Symposium, there will be the launch of the Innovation Fair,  21 November, the first day of the Symposium, from 12.30-14.00. Each success story will have a presenter and a dedicated space in the FAO Atrium. They will be available to discuss with participants about their innovation and success story, and talk in an informal way about the constraints they faced, as well as the drivers that led to innovation and success.
