Report on flood hazard conditions in Italy and associated risk indicators

This Report provides an insight into the flood hazard and risk conditions in Italy in the framework of the hydraulic and geological risk assessment, in which floods are undoubtedly the most significant component in terms of both flood event extension and impacts.

The Report illustrates the steps performed for the implementation of the Floods Directive 2007/60/EC by Competent Authorities (CAs): starting from the European and national legal framework and the related requirements, moving towards the description of the activities carried out by CAs during two cycles of Floods Directive implementation and finally describing the obtained results that made possible for ISPRA to define a homogeneous and complete national picture, updated to 2020, of the flood hazard and risk conditions in Italy. In addition to the national scale, the picture is also provided at different administrative levels, such as the regional, provincial and municipal ones, and with respect to the River Basin Districts and the Units of Management, which are the territorial references for river basin planning according to the European Floods Directive and the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC.
